Scouting Report

Has deceptive speed and is quick to the puck...Works very well along the boards and in the corners...Has good passing skills and works hard to set up his linemates...A creative playmaker...Has a solid shot and is dangerous around the net...Excels in a physical game...A very aggressive forechecker who has a strong physical presence on the ice...A very determined player who can intimidate opponents with his work ethic and physical play...A good team player and excellent leader. (00-01 media guide) "We think Scott will be a good player for us, and the fans of Nashville will like him. He is a team cornerstone, someone who oozes character and always plays hard." (Craig Channell, Predators chief amateur scout) Hartnell is a real grinder with strong offensive skills. He is also a leader, serving this season as captain for the Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders. He is the youngest captain in the history of the WHL. Hartnell may have only ranked third on his team in scoring, with 10 goals and 28 assists in 32 games, but that wasn't due to a lack of effort. Hartnell is probably the hardest working guy in this year's draft. (The Redline Report) Has improving offensive instincts and loads of upside. Plays with tremendous defensive makeup and poise. Is versatile enough to play any forward position. Loves to crash and bang. Must stay healthy in order to enjoy a lengthy career. Is already experiencing concussion problems. Hartnell could soon emerge as one of the NHL's top power forwards. (TSN.ca)
